🚐SOUTH DAKOTA- 5th STOP🚩
July 5th-6th, 2020
After an unforgetable day in Chicago, we loaded up the RV and headed to Wisconsin for a few hours of sleep. We had an intense day of driving all the way to South Dakota for our next stop. We can add Minnesota to the list, although stops were only for gas and to check out some Texas Longhorns for sale at a local farm. 🤠
We made one more stop along the way, this time in South Dakota at Sioux Falls. The kids enjoyed the waterfalls in the center of town and the stop helped to break up our day.
We made it to The Badlands by 4:00pm. This place is extraordinary! We had the perfect amount of time to explore, hike, scooter around the National Park, eat dinner and enjoy a nightime thunderstorm.
On our way out of The Badlands we went by Sage Creek Road and saw prairie dogs, horned sheep and bison.
We considered going to Mount Rushmore or the Crazy Horse Memorial, but opted for Custer State Park instead. It turned out to be one of the kids favorite spots, so a great detour! We drove through Black Hill National Forest, the views were gorgeous.
We arrived around noon at the lake (name TBD- I need to look it up) We rented two kayaks for us to share, and Owen wasted no time fishing on the ledge of the lake. The kids jumped in the water, swam around and even climbed on on some pretty big rocks to jump in the lake. Phil, in a moment of insanity, decided to climb to the top of a huge rock face. Thankfully, he didn't deicde to jump. Check my picture below and see if you can spot him.
👇Can you see Phil all the way up there? 👀
All in all, South Dakota will now be one of my favorite states! If you are thinking about a trip out- do it!
